ย Arthrodesis.

Arthrodesis is the process of surgically, fusing a joint, usually irreversible. It is achieved by removing the articular surfaces of both joints and then holdingย  bone ends together as in a fracture either internal or external fixation may be used large joints may require some bone grafting to promote union.

Arthrodesis indications

  1. painful damage
  2. unstable joint.

Example:ย Rheumatoid arthritis

Antalgic gait.

An antalgic gait describe the manner of walking of someone. Who is trying to minimize pain in a limb.ย  The commonest cause of pain in a limb isย osteoarthritis.

The patient leans to the side of the patient’s hip and takes rapids followed by a slower step on the unaffected side.

Arthroscopy

Arthroscopy is nowย a standard procedure for investigatingย and treating problems with the larger joint.ย The joint cavity is filled with saline and a telescope is introduced so that procedure can be carried out under direct vision.

ย Arthroscopic is possible to perform

1. Joint washout of loose osteophytes and traumatic.

2. Biopsy of abnormal tissues.

Arthrogryposis.

Arthrogryposis is a multiplex congenital clinical description of a group of disorders in which there is a progressive restriction of movement due to contractures of the soft tissues.

Neuropathic and myopathic causes have been described.

Arthrosis.

arthrosis is degenerative disease of a joint.

Neuropraxia

Neuropraxia is physiological interruption of an anatomically intact nerve. In this condition, there is minimal damage. The axons are intact but conduction is lost because of segmental demyelinations.

This is transient lesion and recovery is spontaneous after a few days or weeks.

Axonotmesis.

separation of axons of a peripheral nerve. In this condition, there is severe damage to the axon and distal portions of the axon degeneration.

The investing sheaths of the nerve remain intact and recovery through delay is likely.

Neurotmesis.

In this condition where there is complete division of the nerve and spontaneous recovery is impossible without surgical intervention. Even with that partial recovery occurs most of the time.

Arthroplasty.

Arthroplasty is the surgical creation in which plastic is placed on the joint that gives relieve pain and restore movement.

Example: knee replacement

Arthrotomy.

The surgical exploration of a joint.

ย Arthrotomy indication.

  1. Inspection of the interior or perform a synovial biopsy.
  2. Drainage of hematoma or abscess.
  3. Damaged structure.
  4. Removal of a loose body.
