Whirl Pool BathΒ

The principle of whirlpool bath therapy is to combine the effects of temp with the mechanical effects of the water. A warm whirlpool contains water at a temperature ranges between 36-45 degrees Celsius and a jet of water or air steam is allowed to produce turbulence in the water.

Ultra-violet RadiationΒ

The sun emits ultraviolet radiation which can often have an effect akin e.g. sunburn, but for therapeutic purposes, some form of generator is used. This is often a U-shaped glass tube. The burner is made of quartz: this material allows the passage of ultraviolet, can withstand very high temperatures, and has a fairly low coefficient of expansion.

Ultrasound

The high-frequency sound wave is greater than 20,000 Hz. Ultrasound is well above this, with therapeutic frequencies being in the range of 1 MHz or 3 MHz.

For a 1MHz machine, a vibrating source with a frequency of one million cycles per second is needed. This is achieved using either a quartz or a barium titanate crystal. These crystals deform when subjected to a varying potential difference – a piezo-electric effect.

Β

Short-Wave diathermy

A short wave diathermy current medical purpose frequency used is 27.12 MHz and Wavelength – is 11m.

The transfer of electrical energy to the patient occurs via an electrostatic or electromagnetic field. There are therefore two methods of application; the condenser/capacitor field and the inductothermy method”

interferential therapy

Interferential therapy

Interferential therapy is a form of electrical treatment in which two medium frequency currents are used to produced a low frequency effects . which stimulate motor and sensory nerves , encounter a much lower skinΒ
