A faradic type of current is a short duration interrupted direct current with a pulse duration of 0.1 -1 ms and frequency of 50 -100 Hz (hertz).faradic current is used for stimulation of innervated muscle .it consist of two unequal phaseΒ

The application of cold for various therapeutic purposes is called cryotherapy. Cryotherapy is commonly used for acute trauma and subacute injury. A specific amount of energy is required to change the solid form of ice into water which is called latent of fusion .

Hydro collator Packs are also called hot packs which are immersed in an apparatus called hydro collator. They provide superficial moist heat to the part where applied.

Whirl Pool BathΒ 

The principle of whirlpool bath therapy is to combine the effects of temp with the mechanical effects of the water. A warm whirlpool contains water at a temperature ranges between 36-45 degrees Celsius and a jet of water or air steam is allowed to produce turbulence in the water.

Ice therapy may be used to: Reduce pain, Reduce spasticity, Reduce muscle spasms, Reduce swelling, Promote repair, and Provide excitatory stimulus when muscles are inhibited.

Ultra-violet RadiationΒ 

The sun emits ultraviolet radiation which can often have an effect akin e.g. sunburn, but for therapeutic purposes, some form of generator is used. This is often a U-shaped glass tube.

Infra-red radiation

Infra-red radiation is electromagnetic waves with a wavelength of 750 nm to 400,000nm. Any hot body emits infrared rays: the sun, gas fires, coal fires, electric fires, hot water pipes, etc. Various types of infrared generators are employed in the physiotherapy department, all designed to comply with DHSS regulations.

Ultrasound

The high-frequency sound wave is greater than 20,000 Hz. Ultrasound is well above this, with therapeutic frequencies being in the range of 1 MHz or 3 MHz.
