Supraspinatus
origin
Medial 2/3 of the supraspinous fossa of the scapula
Insertion
Upper impression on the greater tubercle of the humerus
Nerve Supply
Suprascapular Nerve (c5,c6)
Action
- Abduction of shoulder joint up to 0-15 degrees
- Both supraspinatus and deltoid are involved in the initiation of abduction and continuation of abduction.

Infraspinatus
Origin
Medial 2/3 of infraspinatus fossa of scapula
Insertion
Middle impression greater tubercle of the humerus
Nerve supply
Suprascapular nerve ( c5-c6 )
Action
Lateral rotation of Arm

Teres minor
Origin
The lateral border of the scapula
Insertion
Lower impression of the greater tubercle of the humerus
Nerve supply
Axillary nerve (c5-c6)
Action
- Lateral rotation of the arm
- It helps to hold the head of the humerus in the glenoid cavity.

Teres major
Origin
The inferior angle of the scapula
Insertion
The bicipital groove of the humerus
Action
- Medial rotator
- Adductor of arm
- Extensor of arm

Subscapularis
Origin
Medial 2/3 of subscapular fossa
Insertion
Lesser tubercle of humerus
Nerve supply
Upper and lower subscapular nerve (c5,c6)
Action
- Medial Rotator
- Adductor of arm

Deltoid
Origin
- Lateral 1/3 of clavical
- Lateral border of acromion process
- Spine of scapula
Insertion
Deltoid tubersity of humerus
Nerve supply
Axillary nerve (c5,c6)
Action
- Abduction of arm at shoulder joint (upto 90 degree )
- Anterior fiber – Flexor and medial rotation of arm
- Posterior fiber – extensor and lateral rotation of arm
