Strength Duration Curve

The plotting of strength โ€“ duration curves  (SD Curve) , which indicate the strength of impulses of various durations required to produce contraction in a muscle , is the most satisfactory method at present available for the routine testing of electrical reaction in peripheral nerve lesions.

Advantages of strength โ€“ duration curves (SD Curve)

  • It is simple and reliable.
  • It indicate proportion of denervation.
  • It help in diagnosis and prognosis>

Disadvantage of strength โ€“ duration curves (SD Curve)

It does not indicate the site of nerve lesion
